How to Stay Connected with Long-distance Friends
If you're like me, you have a few friends all over the country. Or maybe you have cousins in a different state or country (me again!) You're not in charge of trips and vacations, so you don't get to decide how often you see them. It's much better to say in touch with your friends, so I've made a list of ways to keep in touch and stay connected.
Text, email, and call
Well, this one is pretty obvious. But sometimes we forget about it! I send my long-distance friends texts or emails at least once a week, even if it's just a simple "Hey, how's it going?" I met one of my friends, who lives 73 hours away from me, about two years ago. We haven't seen each other since, but have emailed each other almost every day! One of the cases where technology is just amazing π
Let your friend know you are thinking of them
Think beyond "Hey, how are you." Think of something else to send them besides the weekly check-in (while it's still great to say hi!) Send them a picture of the sunrise, or a funny video or meme or whatever you can think of that will make them smile. Maybe you see something in a store that reminds them of you? Snap a picture and send it to them! Sending reminders little reminders is a great way to keep you in their thoughts and show that you still care.
Do Bible studies together
Another friend of mine and I do devotionals on You Version together. Not is this a way to stay connected, we are also growing closer to God and learning more about Him! Plus, doing a devotional with friends (even if they live near) is way more motivating than doing it yourself. Try it, you'll see! We're currently doing this one about Hope.
Write letters
Some people think this is old fashioned, but I think it's a great way to keep in touch! Besides, who doesn't like to receive something in the mail? Letters may take longer than texts, but you don't need to write letters every day or week like you might do for a text. I end up writing letters to one of my friends about once a month - and sometimes longer.
Remember birthdays and holidays
Don't forget your friend's birthday! Put a reminder on your phone, or mark it on your calendar. Send them a text and a card on their special day - it will make their day πOn holidays, send them a GIF or short message wishing them a great day. I guess this falls into the category of "Let your friend know you are thinking of them" π
What do you do to stay in touch with your friends?
Leave a comment down below! Maybe I'll make a part 2 π
See you around!
